In the world of spirits, Redbreast Whisky stands as a beacon of tradition and craftsmanship. But what happens when you blend that rich heritage with cutting-edge technology? You get an augmented reality (AR) experience that goes beyond the glass, inviting enthusiasts to delve deeper into the brand's story. Designing for AR, especially for a mobile experience like Redbreast's, presents a unique set of opportunities and challenges.
At the core of the Redbreast AR experience is the desire to enhance appreciation without distracting from the product itself. This meant a meticulous approach to visual design, ensuring that the digital elements seamlessly integrated with the physical bottle. To celebrate Redbreast Whiskey’s Irish Roots, a comprehensive animated commercial campaign was created including an Augmented Reality mobile web experience. No app download was needed. The user could point their camera at a surface and a birdhouse, bottle, & Robin Redbreast would appear and perform a 3D animated commercial. Users could screenshot and share the experience as well as learn more about the company.

Interaction design was key. How could users intuitively explore the narrative? Simple gestures, clear calls to action, and a user interface that felt natural within the AR environment were paramount. The goal wasn't just to show, but to engage. Imagine tapping on a digital element to hear the master distiller's insights or to unlock historical facts about the brand.
Performance and accessibility also played a crucial role. The experience needed to be smooth and responsive on a variety of mobile devices, ensuring that every user, from the tech-savvy to the traditionalist, could enjoy the magic. Ultimately, designing for Redbreast AR was about creating an immersive, informative, and unforgettable journey, transforming a bottle of whisky into a portal to its soul.
